1 – Pre-Register
You and your neighbors need to pre-register by filling out the Pre-Registration Form. Once enough interest has accumulated within your area we will start signing people up. See tips on spreading the word!
2 – Sign Up
Once your area has expressed enough interest it’s time to sign up and choose which package best fits your needs.
3 – Pre-Construction
Permitting and engineering take place and equipment is ordered so construction can begin.
4. Construction
During this phase we will get fiber to your area and to your home.
5. Schedule Installation
Our technicians will schedule installation from the outside to inside your home or business and configure any add-ons.
6. Fiber to your area is complete!
Everyone who showed interest and signed up now has the best Internet experience possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is broadband?
South Georgia Broadband, Inc.’s goal is to get Fiber services to everyone who needs it but unfortunately it’s not always economically feasible. The FCC’s definition of Broadband currently is 25 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream but is expected to rise in the future.
HOW LoNg will it take to get FIBER/BROADBAND?
This is a difficult question to answer and will depend on many factors such as time to obtain permits, equipment, and how many people express interest and of course costs involved. Sadly, if not enough people pre-register you could be waiting a while which is why it’s extremely important you use our campaign tools to spread the word!
WHAT DOES THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
First thing we need to do is obtain the proper permits. This process can take a bit of time depending on what areas we need to cross. Next up we call 811 and get other utilities to locate their services, then we order materials, and schedule construction.
WHAT DOES THE INSTALLATION PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
Once we have permitting and have gotten equipment placed in your area then installation can proceed. We will need your assistance in locating any private water, sewer, or other buried utilities. Then our crews will construct a fiber drop (or other service) to your home. We will schedule a time for a technician to bring the fiber into your home and install any add-ons as needed.
What are the benefits of a fiber connection?
Fiber is faster, more secure and more reliable. Not only is fiber less susceptible to electrical interference but it transfers data at the speed of light.
IS THERE ANY ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION COSTS?
There is a one time $300 connection fee when we connect your home to our Fiber network after you sign up for service. There may be additional costs such as installation, activation or trenching and they will be quoted at sign-up and prior to any construction phase in your neighborhood.
HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU NEED TO START SIGNUPS?
The answer to this question involves many factors, including cost but generally we like to have between 16 and 32 people in an area show interest before starting signups.
My AREA ISN’t LISTED, WHATS UP WITH THAT?
We are constantly adding areas so if you don’t see your neighborhood on the map, submit an Pre-Registration Form, and get your neighborhood involved using our marketing materials or what usually works best, word of mouth.
